Paul Brady plays intimate gig.. Dromineer

noel 3On Saturday june 1st. Paul Brady finally had a dream come true when he headlined the second ‘surprise artist’ to play the legendary whisky still in the picturesque village of Dromineer ,Nenagh ,Tipperary. The gig was organised by the committee of the north tipperary centre for young people with autism, a worthy cause which raised thousands of euro through its car raffle tickets on the night .

[Tweet “m c duties for the occasion fell on …”]M.C. duties for the occasion fell to Seamus Mccarthy who did a commendable job in introducing the various musical acts .First up to play were the appropriately named ‘elderly brothers’ , who included some ‘heavy guns’-Ozzy Kilkenny on rhythm guitar and Horslips Barry Devlin on bass guitar, who were also joined by multi tasking Larry richardson on lead guitar and vocals on the beatles cover of ‘get back’.Expectation and rumour grew during the set that Brady might not appear due to a sudden illness .All fears were vanquished when he jumped onto the stage to a tumultuous cheer from the crowd and proceeded to bring the house down with a selection of his greatest hits , including ‘crazy dreams’ and the sublime ‘nobody knows’ .The crowd which comprised locals and even further afield from the metropolis of Nenagh, also included Dublin central independent T D Finian MCgrath. The punters certainly got value for money and enjoyed a relaxed professional set from Brady who later obliged for photos and autographs with fans and friends .After Brady’s set ,a traditional duo comprising banjo and guitar played a Gerry O Connor influenced sets of tunes !All in all , without doubt it was anight to remember and hopefully the organisers had the good sence to record the event. as the resultant dvd would make a convenient stocken fillerand also add to ther coffers.Mr Brady may have been a stranger when he called in to ‘say hello’-but he was welcomed “here kind stranger” and to quote Tom Creagh he “was one of our own”!
